Congratulations to Camila Garcia for receiving FIRST PLACE in the "#StopTheHate: Anti-Bias Vision for the Next Generation Youth Competition" from NJ Civil Rights.
Students created an artwork that stands up to bias and hate.
Camilla will receive a certificate from the Office of the Attorney General, Division on Civil Rights.
The winning projects will be featured as part of a multimedia campaign by the Division on Civil Rights as determined by the Division in its discretion.
Winners will also:
(1) have the opportunity to participate in a roundtable (in virtual format, if necessary) wherein they will be given the opportunity to share their experiences with bias/hate and their ideas on how the government could do a better job communicating with young people; and
(2) be designated #NJCivilRights Ambassadors for the year following their selection and will work with DCR in a peer mentoring capacity for other students.
This is not Camilla's first award in art. Camilla was national winner for the NASA Langley Student art contest In 2020 and honorable mention for the same contest this year.
Camila plans on taking AP Drawing next year and continuing art in college.
