The NBHS Environmental Club participated in Government Week by distributing free reusable tote bags and information flyers addressing the upcoming ban on single use plastic bags going into effect May 4, 2022

On Wednesday, April 6, 2022 members of the NBHS Environmental Club participated in Government Week by distributing free reusable tote bags and information flyers addressing the upcoming ban on single use plastic bags going into effect May 4, 2022.  After a lunch and some interviews at Sole’s Pizza, the students then went on a tour of the Woodcliff Treatment Plant on River Road and got to see firsthand where and how plastic bag waste ends up in the treatment process and how wastewater is treated and processed before returning to our waterways.

We would like to thank superintendent Dr. George Solter and our principal Mr. Richard Locricchio for allowing us to take part on this field trip, NJ Clean Communities and NBMUA Recycling Aid Mr. Tom Stampe for providing us with the free tote bags and the opportunity, Food Bazaar of North Bergen for opening their doors to our students and allowing our students to distribute the information to their customers, and NBMUA Executive Director Mr. Frank Pestana and the entire staff at Woodcliff Treatment Plant for taking the time out of their day to talk to our students and provide the tour of their facility.
